Week 30: No Copilot, No Problem
I had been using GitHub Copilot for both office and personal work. Recently, my personal license expired, and I decided not to renew it since I hadn’t been coding much outside of work.
But this week, while updating my budget app, I typed some code and instinctively hit Tab. No autocomplete showed up. At first, I thought it was a glitch. Then it hit me—my license had expired. And honestly, a small shiver ran down my spine: “Now I have to code everything myself.”
But here’s the surprising part: once I started, I realized I could write exactly what I had in mind, instead of constantly checking Copilot’s suggestions and rewriting them. It felt good. Back to be normal like how I use to code earlier.
After reading articles like this one, I’ve come to believe that it’s not all lost in this AI-driven world. We can still be good at what we do. There’s still value in clarity of thought, in writing code ourselves, and in building real technical depth.
Combined with the recent lessons I’ve been learning from a senior colleague at work, I feel more confident doubling down on my craft. I’m convinced now: someone with solid technical knowledge will always remain relevant—no matter how loud the AI bubble gets.
