Week 21: DIY Fix: Breathing New Life into My 2015 MacBook

June 7, 2025 . 2 minutes read

This weekend, I took two days off work to deep-clean the house. While clearing out my old office room, I stumbled upon my 2015 MacBook Pro tucked away in the wardrobe. The moment I saw it, a wave of nostalgia hit me—I had so many memories tied to that laptop.

I had stopped using it years ago due to keyboard issues and sluggish performance. When I once took it to the Apple Service Center, they told me that Apple had officially stopped supporting this model. Basically, I was on my own. Frustrated, I shelved it and eventually bought a Mac Studio, which has since been my go-to for all personal work.

While the Studio gave me all the power and performance I needed, I’ve always missed the portability that only a laptop can offer.

So, inspired by my recent DIY success fixing our washing machine, I thought—why not try fixing the MacBook myself? I booted it up, wiped it clean, installed the last supported macOS, and found a YouTube hack to fix the stuck keyboard. To my amazement—it worked like a charm!

Picture a decade-old laptop that still runs fast enough—and it’s not ready to retire anytime soon. I was beyond happy. I immediately reinstalled all my go-to software, and just like that, the MacBook felt brand new again. I kept smiling and couldn’t stop talking to my wife about how happy I was to have revived it.

And guess what? This weekly is being written from that very MacBook. I’m genuinely thrilled things turned out the way they did.
